Universal Music Group and Stability AI Announce Strategic Alliance for AI Music Tools
Universal Music Group and Stability AI announced a strategic alliance to co-develop professional, fully licensed AI music creation tools. The partnership will center artists in the development process to guide the creation of commercially safe products built on responsibly trained models.
According to Stability AI, Universal Music Group (UMG) and Stability AI have formed a strategic alliance to develop next-generation professional music creation tools powered by responsibly trained generative AI. Announced on October 30, 2025, the collaboration will see Stability AI’s research and product teams work closely with UMG and its artists to explore new recording and composition concepts, research technical approaches, and gather feedback to guide the creation of fully licensed, commercially safe tools.
UMG Chief Digital Officer and EVP Michael Nash said the agreement extends UMG’s commitment to supporting artists and songwriters through AI models that are trained responsibly. Stability AI CEO Prem Akkaraju stated that the partnership puts artists at the center to build AI around their unique creative needs. The announcement follows recent Stability AI partnerships with Electronic Arts and WPP, and builds on a prior collaboration with Warner Music Group.
