Report: Anthropic in Talks With Samsung to Develop Custom AI Chip

Anthropic is reportedly in discussions with Samsung to manufacture a custom AI chip, following a broader industry trend of AI labs pursuing dedicated silicon to reduce reliance on third-party GPU providers.

Anthropic is in talks with Samsung about developing a custom artificial-intelligence processor, according to a report from The Information cited by TestingCatalog. The discussions suggest the AI lab is exploring dedicated silicon to power its models.

The move mirrors recent industry efforts to bring chip design in-house. OpenAI recently announced its own AI chip developed alongside Broadcom, TestingCatalog pointed out, underscoring a growing shift toward vertical integration among major AI labs.

A custom chip would give Anthropic greater control over its hardware stack and could eventually reduce inference costs, though partnerships with foundries typically take years to yield production silicon. Neither Anthropic nor Samsung has publicly confirmed the negotiations.
