OpenAI Rolls Out Dreaming V3 Memory System for ChatGPT
OpenAI has begun rolling out Dreaming V3, an updated background memory synthesis architecture for ChatGPT that automatically curates user context to improve freshness and relevance, starting with Plus and Pro users in the U.S.
According to an OpenAI Blog post dated June 4, 2026, OpenAI has begun rolling out Dreaming V3, a more capable and scalable memory synthesis system for ChatGPT. The architecture uses a background process to automatically curate and refresh memories from chat history, aiming to resolve staleness, correctness, and scalability challenges that affected earlier approaches.
The feature evolves from saved memories launched in April 2024, through Dreaming V0 introduced in April 2025, to the current Dreaming V3. Synthesized memories are reviewable via a memory summary page where users can correct details, add information, or set instructions. The update is available to Plus and Pro users in the United States starting today, with plans to expand to additional countries and to Free and Go users over the coming weeks.
